Critical Incident / Post Traumatic Stress Support

Critical Incident / Post Traumatic Stress Support

Is Your Organisation Ready to Manage a Critical Incident?

Accidents and violent incidents can occur at any time in the workplace. Armed raids are common in the retail trade, man-made or natural disasters happen when we least expect them and employees do unfortunately commit suicide. Whatever the cause, the effects of a crisis can and does have a devastating effect on the individual concerned and those around them.

Post Traumatic Stress Support is essential in the aftermath of a critical incident. Organisations have a duty of care to their employees and it is essential that you ensure that the correct support is given to your employees who have been involved in or witnessed a traumatic incident in the workplace. Too many organisations are unsure what to do when a critical incident occurs and many managers don′t know how to deal with traumatic stress. Often the right interventions are not in place and staff may be ill-equipped to handle a major debriefing exercise. Some will even ignore the situation and then end up with high absenteeism due to PTSD, decreased performance and productivity.

Critical Incident Solutions to Support your Organisation

The Carole Spiers Group (CSG) has over 20 years experience of supporting industry, commerce and the public sector with the management of critical incidents and post traumatic stress disorder. We understand the pain and suffering that comes with experiencing a trauma. Our nationwide team of post trauma debriefers, counsellors and consultants will work with you to manage the situation and minimise traumatic stress. With experience in many war zones, major disasters and personal accidents, we know the right support you need and we will take your employees from trauma to recovery.

Four Key Steps to Anticipation, Planning, Training and Post Trauma support

Step 1: CSG Post Trauma Consultancy
Within the disaster planning consultancy process, we will identify the necessary training that your staff will need to enable them to manage the challenges that arise when a critical incident occurs. Examples of this could include: managing enquiries from people in distress, managing family inquiries, managing staff in times of crisis.

Step 2: Defusing Training for Your Team
Aimed at those who would usually be first on the scene of the accident, we will train your key managers and HR Professionals in the basic elements of critical incident people management and show them how to effectively defuse the situation and care for victims. Your managers will have direct contact with us in the aftermath of an incident and we will be on hand to advise, support and give ongoing support to your employees long after your own team have left the scene.

Step 3: Critical Incident Support
Where a number of employees have been involved in an incident, a group session can be offered. Sometimes those not immediately involved in the incident e.g. witnesses, team members may also be offered support. Each situation is unique and will be dealt with accordingly.

Step 4: Post Trauma Support and Counselling
Trauma victims are normally assessed on a one to one basis by our debriefer and offered an agreed number of post trauma counselling sessions to help them back to the road to recovery.

It is a very simple process but a vital one that needs to be implemented to ensure that you are demonstrating your duty of care and putting the health, safety and welfare of your employees first during times of crisis and trauma.
